Therapeutic ultrasound in Orland Park

Deep-tissue sound waves that warm, relax, and help injured soft tissue heal.

Some of the tissue that holds pain is too deep to reach with the hands alone. Therapeutic ultrasound reaches it with sound. At our Orland Park office, Dr. Beekman uses this deep-tissue sound-wave therapy to increase circulation, relax tight tissue, and help injured or inflamed soft tissue heal, often as part of a plan that includes adjustments and other therapies.

How therapeutic ultrasound works

A smooth applicator glides over the skin and sends high-frequency sound waves into the tissue below. As those waves travel through the muscle and soft tissue, they create a gentle warming effect deep beneath the surface, deeper than a heating pad can reach. That gentle warmth is what makes the therapy so useful for stubborn, deeper areas of tension and irritation.

Better circulation, more relaxed tissue

By warming the tissue, therapeutic ultrasound helps boost blood flow to the area. Better circulation brings more of what the body needs to repair and recover, and it helps ease muscle tightness that can hold an area stiff and sore. For soft tissue that is injured or inflamed, that combination of increased circulation and relaxed tissue can support a smoother recovery.

Part of a bigger plan: therapeutic ultrasound is often paired with spinal adjustments and other therapies. Warming and relaxing the soft tissue first can help your body respond more comfortably to the rest of your care. Dr. Beekman builds the combination around what your body needs.

Questions, answered

What does therapeutic ultrasound feel like?

Most patients feel little more than a warm, soothing sensation, if anything at all. A smooth applicator is moved gently over the skin with a bit of gel, and the sound waves work beneath the surface. It is a comfortable, non-invasive therapy.

How is this different from a diagnostic ultrasound?

A diagnostic ultrasound creates images. Therapeutic ultrasound is used for treatment: the sound waves gently warm the tissue beneath the skin to boost circulation, relax muscle tightness, and support healing in an injured or inflamed area.
