Carpal tunnel syndrome treatment in Orland Park

A drug-free, non-surgical option to try for wrist and hand numbness.

What is carpal tunnel syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome develops when the median nerve is compressed as it passes through the carpal tunnel, a narrow passageway of bones and ligaments on the palm side of the wrist. When the tissues around that passage swell or the nerve is pinched, the pressure interferes with the signals traveling through it, producing numbness, tingling, and weakness in the wrist and hand.

Symptoms

Most people first notice numbness and tingling in the thumb, index, and middle fingers, sometimes with a burning sensation. The hand may feel weak, and you might find yourself dropping objects or struggling with fine movements. Symptoms often flare at night or when the wrist is held in one position for a long time, such as while driving or using a keyboard.

It's not always just the wrist

The median nerve does not start at the wrist. Its pathway runs from the neck and shoulder, down the arm, and into the hand. Irritation or compression anywhere along that chain can contribute to carpal tunnel symptoms. That is why Dr. Beekman looks at the whole pathway rather than the wrist alone, so care addresses the true source of the pressure.

How we treat it

Conservative chiropractic care is a drug-free, non-surgical option many people choose to try first. Dr. Beekman examines the full nerve pathway and builds a personalized plan that may include adjustments to relieve pressure along the neck, shoulder, and wrist, along with supporting therapies such as therapeutic ultrasound to calm inflamed tissue and encourage healing.

Numbness or tingling in your hand? Carpal tunnel symptoms tend to respond better the earlier they are addressed. Visit our Orland Park office for an examination so we can find the source and create a treatment plan for you.

Questions, answered

What is carpal tunnel syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome happens when the median nerve, which runs into the hand, becomes compressed as it passes through a narrow passageway in the wrist. That pressure produces numbness, tingling, and weakness in the wrist and hand, often affecting the thumb and fingers.

Why would a chiropractor look at my neck for a wrist problem?

The median nerve does not begin at the wrist. Its pathway runs from the neck and shoulder all the way down the arm. Compression anywhere along that chain can contribute to your symptoms, so care that addresses the whole pathway, not just the wrist, often makes sense.

Do I have to consider surgery for carpal tunnel?

Not necessarily. Conservative chiropractic care is a drug-free, non-surgical option many people try first. Dr. Beekman examines you to understand what is compressing the nerve, then builds a personalized plan. Visit our Orland Park office so we can determine the best approach for you.
